Sole Sisters Race Weekend

Standard

This past weekend I took part in the largest all women’s race in all of Canada, called Sole Sisters. It was their third annual race, which is a very successful fundraiser for an organization called Girls Gone Gazelle, a running initiative for girls ages 8-13 in Nova Scotia. It took place in Dartmouth, close to my home town. There were 3200 women all in their purple race t shirts, so it’s been said it was a “sea of purple” in Dartmouth that evening!! Here’s just a quick pic of a fraction of us at the starting line….

It was only 5k so very doable for the average woman, such as myself. You could walk it or run it, or a combination thereof. The feeling at the race was one of acceptance, encouragement and empowerment, inclusiveness, health and wellness, and friendship and fun. There was no pressure, everyone could go at their own pace. It was a very fun and moving experience, first time I’ve ever competed or took part in such a thing. Life is so busy these days, women have a lot on their minds, everyone is struggling and under pressure to do everything “right” and juggle so many responsibilities, that it is so nice to leave all that behind and just accept each other without criticism or judgement, health wise or weight wise, or parenting, or relationship wise and just have some fun. Below, here I am with two of my very best friends before the race. I love these women dearly, they are both kind, loving mothers and friends, and great people who accept me for who I am (see note above about always trying to do everything right!! Ugh!!!). We have lots of fun together, have lots in common, our kids are great friends, and even get a little bit silly sometimes…

What a great bunch of ladies all in all. So fun and lots of laughs.

Above: Here we are after the race with our bling!

So before I depart for the day, and head out to the sunshine, I’ll share a quick simple layout I did at a crop a few weekends back, using Echo Park’s Summer Adventure pack. Living as near to the ocean as we do, as I’ve said before, there are so many wonderful opportunities to scrapbook using these nautical papers! I used the paper pack contents, a wooden anchor which I LOVE, brown ink, cardstock and few small pearls around my journaling box. Just a quick fun layout, simple and easy, but bright and colourful and cheery.
